Smart Car Seat Technology Can Detect A Drunk Driver

Researchers from Hiroshima University and the University of Tokyo, Japan, along with Delta Tooling, have developed a new smart car seat. This new technology can be installed in a car seat not only to detect if the driver is drunk or under the influence of other drugs, but also if they are getting drowsy behind the wheel.



This sensor can also be placed on a bed and warn if a patient’s pulse is irregular or if he or she is suffering a heart attack.
According to the Nikkei Technology, a sensor with a built-in microphone detects the sound and vibration produced by the cardiovascular system of the user. The technology is built in a foamy fabric that can be placed in a seat or on a mattress without causing any discomfort to the user.
It captures the aortic pulse wave (the mixture of sound and vibration that the cardiovascular system generates on the skin) without any background noise interference, and is then able to warn when there are any variations or irregularities caused by the use of alcohol or drugs, or an inertial heart failure. This technology could also serve to prevent accidents caused by a heart attack at the wheel.
